The Perfect Holiday Wine

With Ricardo Torreblanca, Sales Director at El Club del Gourmet

With Ricardo Torreblanca, Sales Director at El Club del Gourmet

Hello December!!! I adore this month, as not only Christmas is right next door, but also my birthday and multiple dinners, posadas and holidays…and when it comes to celebrations sparkling wine is a must.

To figure out the differences between the wide ranges of sparkling wine, I attended a tasting last week hosted by El Club del Gourmet at one of its newest stores in Colonia Roma. I usually attend their tastings as they make it fun and easy to learn about winery and gourmet lifestyle.Tasting

The tasting consisted on technical and cultural details and the tasting of 3 sparkling wines:

Davì Prosecco, Extra Dry  – D.O.C.G. Prosecco. Italy

Canard Duchêne Brut Rosé – A.O.C. Champagne. France

Devaux Grand Réserve – A.O.C. Champagne. France

Daví Prosecco Extra Dry

Daví Prosecco Extra Dry

Daví Prosecco Extra Dry comes from the grape named Prosecco Veneto, Italy(also named Glera) and it is produced in Veneto, Italy. It has a bright yellow color with intense aromas and flavors of yellow apple, pear and hints of peach.  It is easy to marry with practically any meal, but it suits perfectly with mole, seafood and desserts. It should be served in a temperature of 6º to 8º.

Canard Duchêne Brut Rosé

Canard Duchêne Brut Rosé

Canard Duchêne Brut Rosé is produced in Champagne, France. It has 45% of Pinot Noir grape, 25% of Pinot Meunier and 30% of Chardonnay. It has a brilliant graphite color with delicate and constant bubbles. Its aroma is citric with a hint of cherry and tastes as strawberry with a refined texture. This champagne will marry exquisitely with high dining Mexican dishes. Serve it form 6º – 8º.

Devaux

Devaux

Devaux Grand Réserve is also produced in Champagne, France. It consists of 60% Pinot Noir grape and 40% Chardonnay. Its aroma reminds us of toast, orange zest, butter and spices.  This wine is excellent to have as an appetizer and shold be served in a temperature of 4º – 5º.

Among them all, the Daví Prosecco was my favorite, and I really recommend it if you enjoy a fresh and subtle sparkling wine.

At Club del Gourmet store, there is also a wide range of red and white wines if you don’t like sparkling. Personally I would suggest Puzzle, from Uruguay, a 15 varietal red blend. Amazing!!

I urge you to visit El Club del Gourmet for you to find either the best present or to be the best host for this Holiday Season. Cheers!

Blu Barcelona

Blu Barcelona

Blu Barcelona

This two weeks have been crazy. I just moved back to Mexico City and have tons of things to do!! Anyways, I saved a last post from Barcelona with which I wanted to close my experience at that amazing city.

One of the things I enjoyed doing the most in Barcelona was walking (I know, sounds weird). More concretely I loved to wander through Passeig de Gracia and look at the window displays and visit my favorite stores, by doing this I bumped into one of my biggest store crushes: BLU Barcelona.

Blu Barcelona

Blu Barcelona

It’s not that I don´t love jewelry shops like Cartier, Rabat or Montblanc, but BLU Barcelona has a je ne sais quoi that gives uniqueness to its store. The exoticism and technical mastery in each of its pieces makes every jewel a lifetime masterpiece.

I had the please to meet BLU’s owner and designer Marc Codina Eguileor, and chat with him about BLU. He is a very well known jeweler worldwide as he has an innate talent when it comes to precious stones, gems, diamonds and jewels. “Every piece at BLU is of unique creation… we are a reference when it comes to Fancy Colour Diamonds, as only 1% of the worldwide production of diamonds are of this kind”.

I had the chance to try several pieces that definitively took my breath away! From emeralds and diamonds to sapphires and brilliants. I even tried the “Jewel of the year 2013”, awarded by the prestigious and sybarite magazine Barcelona Divina. This consisted on a pair of earrings masterly created in pink gold with spiral diamonds shape and angel’s skin coral colour. Absolutely stunning!!

Blu definitively has a savoir faire when it comes to jewelry. So when looking for something unique, now you know where to shop…

Pepito Barcelona

Pepito Barcelona

Spain has always been one of the top places in the world when it comes to food. I confess that over these 2 years I’ve never tried so much different food and tasted so much wine. In Barcelona, I visited a wide range of restaurants, from small and cheap locals to prestigious locations renown worldwide. But recently, a new restaurant caught my attention: Pepito.

With a prestigious location between Rambla Cataluña and Paseo de Gracia, Pepito specializes (evidently) in Pepitos. This classic meal turns into a gourmet dish with ingredients such as Brie cheese, foie and pimientos de padrón (the typical green Galician peppers with a salty touch).

The menu holds a variety of plates such as salads exquisitely finished, meats, tartar, cod with honey and gourmet tapas. As well, many D.O. from Spain are available for you to choose and marry your meal to boost each flavor.

This fashionable and trendy site is the “it place” for Barcelona’s sybarites. The decoration and service allows the guests to stay longer to have dessert or enjoy a last drink in good company.

I urge you to visit it and try the Pepito Dupont (pimientos de padrón, foie and mushroom) or the Pepito Puig (brie cheese and grilled tomato), if you’re not into pepitos the salmon tartar with avocado is amazing, as well as the patatas bravas or the salad with burrata.

Don’t forget to make a reservation during weekends!

Memmo Alfama

Alfama

Alfama

Every time I travel, I like to look for exclusive and hidden places away from the mass. The kind of places where you can disconnect from everything and just lay down and enjoy.

Last weekend I visited Portugal (Lisbon and Cascais). My experience was amazing as I find this country extremely picturesque: colorful buildings decorated with tile, narrow streets with a characteristic floor, ancient buildings, trams and extraordinary views.

Deep inside Alfama’s district, in Lisbon, stands a unique an exclusive hotel for lifestyle lovers: Memmo Alfama. This design hotel with 42 rooms, and a unique view of the river Tagus and Alfama, is the perfect spot for those who aim to feel like home away from home.

Its minimal decoration combined with an amazing hospitality makes Memmo Alfama a must when in Lisbon. The dualism between vintage and modern is evident when looking at the rooftops of Alfama district while chilling at the amazing pool deck. To enjoy what Memmo Alfama has to offer, you have to be staying at the hotel. This policy is what makes the hotel even more exclusive and cozy.
