A walk to remember

It all started yesterday in the afternoon, I was extremely tired after working by the morning at WGSN and my afternoon Master class, so I sincerely didn´t feel like going in a store by any means. Anyway, it was part of my class to visit the store Santa Eulalia, which I´d heard a lot about but never visited. As I walked in, I understood everything about people’s comments about the store, it´s just marvelous.

Santa Eulalia was originally founded in 1843 at Plà de la boqueria by Domingo Taberner Prims and it continued it´s legacy throughout several generations.  It´s actual store is located at Passeig de Gracia 93 and just opened in 2011. It was designed by the New York architect William Sofield, whom also reinvented Gucci’s boutiques around the world, designed stores for Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, and Boucheron (after they were acquired by the Gucci Group).

It´s 2000 m2 distributed in 3 floors, the pop up store, it´s café and the terrace, make this store a unique place to make shopping a full experience. Brands like Balenciaga, Brioni, Bottega Veneta, Canali, Charlotte Olympia, Christian Louboutin, Diane Von Furstenberg, Etro, Giuseppe Zanotti, Isabel Marant, Kenzo, Lanvin, MCQ by Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith, Valentino and much, more provide you with only the best.

Actually, there is restored furniture from the original store back in 1843;  the elevator from the 1920´s, some Art Deco counters and the amazing spiral staircase made out from oak. This stairway takes you to a lower floor specialized in tailoring. I sincerely adore this part of the store since it has a special fusion between retro and modern. There is a tailor working out of patterns on a traditional and craftwork way which makes you travel back in time to the good old tailoring days, an extraordinary chance for men to have a suit made for you.

Other premium characteristics of Santa Eulalia are it´s pop-up store, which works jointly with international brands and up coming designers, and the Santa Eulalia Café. This cozy, chic and trendy place features some of the best tea (Mariage Frères), Macaroons (Enric Rosich), champagne served “The Santa Eulalia`s way” and mini sandwiches among other delicious stuff. This place can be visited by any person without necessarily having to buy in the store.

As you can see I had a great experience, after all it ended up being a walk to remember!

  1. If I go to Barcelona next year…would you take me to that wonderful store and have a nice cup of tea and some pink macaroons, after buying a lovely pair of those shoes?
