Spain has always been one of the top places in the world when it comes to food. I confess that over these 2 years I’ve never tried so much different food and tasted so much wine. In Barcelona, I visited a wide range of restaurants, from small and cheap locals to prestigious locations renown worldwide. But recently, a new restaurant caught my attention: Pepito.

With a prestigious location between Rambla Cataluña and Paseo de Gracia, Pepito specializes (evidently) in Pepitos. This classic meal turns into a gourmet dish with ingredients such as Brie cheese, foie and pimientos de padrón (the typical green Galician peppers with a salty touch).

The menu holds a variety of plates such as salads exquisitely finished, meats, tartar, cod with honey and gourmet tapas. As well, many D.O. from Spain are available for you to choose and marry your meal to boost each flavor.

This fashionable and trendy site is the “it place” for Barcelona’s sybarites. The decoration and service allows the guests to stay longer to have dessert or enjoy a last drink in good company.

I urge you to visit it and try the Pepito Dupont (pimientos de padrón, foie and mushroom) or the Pepito Puig (brie cheese and grilled tomato), if you’re not into pepitos the salmon tartar with avocado is amazing, as well as the patatas bravas or the salad with burrata.

Don’t forget to make a reservation during weekends!

Maridame: A new gourmet spot at Barcelona

Maridame BarcelonaYesterday, I was invited to try a new gastronomic experience at Barcelona: Marídame. This new spot located at Sant-Gervasi district is the perfect place for gourmet lovers, as if has a wide range of products for exigent palates.

Marídame comes from the word “maridar” which means to marry or combine wine with food; and this is exactly what this space intends for every person to do: marry the preferred wine with the adequate cheese, cold meat, chocolate, etc.MARIDAME

At Marídame, “every wine is married to a product, and every product is married to a wine”.

Maridame storeThe store is divided in 3 spaces:

Store area: Presenting more than 200 references in wine, liquors, beer, cheese, vinegar, oil and gourmet products; the store offers 95% of Spanish references and 5% of the highest quality products like Champagne, Oporto and Tocai.

Tasting area: A perfect 6 table spot to try and combine the products.

Experiences area: An area where tastings, workshops and courses take place.

One of the things I liked the most was the wine dispenser that Marídame has. 8 bottles are presented for you to select either sparkling, wine, rosé or red. It works by injecting nitrogen each time a glass is served. This way the bottles don’t get oxygen in. The glass can go from 1 to 6 euros.

La Chinata

La Chinata

It´s been a while since I last wrote on the blog, my final thesis for the Master occupied most of the time that my wonderful job at Carolina Herrera didn´t spend. But finally I´m back, with tons of new places and experiences that I want to share with you.

Last Thursday I was invited to an amazing event at El Raval, a neighborhood located at Barcelona’s heart. It was the opening of a gourmet shop, also known as “Oleoteca”, named La Chinata.

From the moment I first entered the store I was driven to the fascinating world of olive oil (in every sense of the word): Flavoured extra virgin oil, fruit vinegars, salt and spices from all over the world, spreads, marmalades, sauces, infusions of olive leaf, vinaigrettes, chocolate, sweets and cosmetics; all of them finely elaborated with extra virgin oil as part of the increasing trend of consumers for natural and healthy products.La Chinata Raval_Barcelona (5)

This exclusive place for sophisticated palates is ideal for Sybarites and bon vivants. At La Chinata, the possibility to have a gourmet home-made meal is always approachable as the wide range of products guaranties to transform a daily meal into an amazing dish.

At the event, guests were invited to try simple meals and tapas with a simple touch of olive oil, spices or salts. People say details make the difference, and trust me they do; with this dab you were able to try a new experience in each bite.

Something else worth trying are the cosmetics this store has to offer. The value of extra virgin oil in cosmetics is amazing as it contains a high content of polyphenols. Moreover, its acidity is perfectly suitable for every type of skin making it smooth, moisturized and healthy while it protects it against free radicals that accelerate the aging of skin.LA CHINATA_Bodegón Mascarillas Faciales

I was gifted with some of its cosmetics and I truly recommend you to try them, the difference between normal cosmetics and olive oil cosmetics is huge!

Now you know, whenever you visit Spanish territory I urge you to visit this “Oleoteca” and take a piece of the Mediterranean with you…
